Here's some photos from the Laguna Association of Plein Air Painters Association show Susan and I participated in this July at the Laguna Museum of Art. LAPAPA invited fifty artists from around the country to paint for four days on the spot in and around Laguna Beach. The subjects could be anything as long as they were painted outdoors and from life. After the four days of painting each artist chose three of their works to hang in the Museum for the show. What a blast it was painting alongside so many great artists as well as enjoying the incredible hospitality of the people of Laguna beach! Special thanks to Jay and Mary Linda Strotkamp for hosting us in their coach-house for the week.

John Budicin painting at the Quick Draw.

Susan Lyon Painting at Heisler Park.

John Cosby and Meriam Braselle painting a model with Susan and I  on their deck. You can see more of John's work at http://www.cosbystudio.com/

Here's one of John Cosby's paintings from the show.

Here's Matt Smith (aka "Fancy Pants" -- notice the raised pinky finger as he makes his brush stroke). In case you're wondering about the cell phone in his left hand -- well, Matt is so good that he can talk on the phone at the same time as painting! Seriously, though, Matt is truly one of the best painters I've ever seen. Collectors better act fast before his prices reach the stratosphere! Don't say I didn't tell you so... More of his work can be seen at MattSmith-FineArt.com

Here's one of my favorites of Matt's from the show. Man, did I ever spend a long time studying this painting!

Another of Matt's paintings.

Kevin Macpherson  drawing the usual crowd at the Quick Draw. If you're looking for a good book on landscape painting I think his is one of the best. In addition to being a great writer, Kevin occasionally comes up with a good painting also!

Here's one of Kevin's paintings from the show.

Ned Mueller at the Quick Draw event.

Scott Burdick and Susan Lyon painting Bob Wiermaa at the Quick Draw. Notice the hole in the jeans -- a well guarded secret to painting portraits.

Albert Handell doing one of his signature pastel trees.

Bob Lemler -- he doesn't even need an umbrella! Guess when you're from Scottsdale everywhere else feels cool even in July! His work is also at Trailside Galleries

Here's one of the incredible paintings Bob did in last year's LAPAPA event.

Dan Goozee' painting one of his masterworks.

One of Dan Goozee's paintings from the show. You can see more of Dan's work at  the Joan Irvine Smith Gallery.

Here's Frank La Lumia doing a beach scene.

Here's Susan Painting in Mary Linda and Jay's courtyard.

Here's a photo Dan Goozee' took of our breakfast on Sunday. From left -- Meriam Braselle and her Mother, Matt Smith, John Cosby, Scott Jennings, Susan Lyon, and Scott Burdick.

I didn't get a photo of Ken Backhaus painting, but here's what he did in a mere couple of hours at the Quick Draw!

And finally, Mian Situ the Great! You can't tell it from this photo, but only about a couple of inches behind Mian is a sudden drop of about sixty feet onto the rocks. Ok, I'll admit it, after seeing how good all his paintings were coming out, I was just slightly tempted to give him a gentle little shove... Oops!

Sorry I didn't get photos of all the painters and paintings, but, after all, I did have to do some painting myself!
